4 Ways to Start a Client Referral and Rewards Program to Bring in More Business

Did you set out with the goal of increasing your online personal training sales this year?

Are you stuck for ideas on how to bring in more clients to your online personal training business?

Well, you are in luck! I have a great suggestion that has worked awesome for building my own online personal training (and in-person fitness) business.

Client Referral and Rewards Program

Let’s be honest–everyone loves discounts and free stuff! There is no getting away from it. If you offer any type of sale, incentive, or prize for doing something, the majority of people are going to be all over that!

Here are 4 Ways to Start a Client Referral and Rewards Program in Your Online Personal Training Business:

1. Make social media work for you!

It’s safe to say the majority of your online training clients are on social media in some way or form (this might even be the way they found you?). If they are all using social media, why not have them do a little marketing work for you? Create a rewards program for clients who share a picture on social media (a post-workout selfie or something) and mention your company or tag your company in their post.

2. Give clients credit to their account for each new client they refer to your business.

This is a great way to reward clients for speaking positively about you as a trainer or your business–and it is worth the every dollar! Word-of-mouth marketing is one of the best ways to bring in new clients, and if your existing clients know they might get their next month of training for free if they bring you a referral, they might be more inclined to help you recruit!

3. Give clients points or account credit for sharing completed workouts from the Trainerize app to Facebook.

Trainerize has an awesome feature that clients can share their completed workouts or milestones right to their Facebook timeline. This is a great form of marketing for your business. Think about how many new potential clients you can reach through all of your clients’ Facebook friends! And it won’t cost you much to offer existing clients a little incentive to share to their Facebook account in order to help get more clicks to your company page or website.

4. Create a leaderboard.

A great way to get clients motivated to complete their workouts and make progress is to get them to compete! Everyone loves a good challenge, right? Create small challenges for your clients and have them compete against each other for a great prize. I run 4 or 6 week challenges where I give my clients points for: completing their workouts, sharing their workouts social media and tagging my company account, uploading their progress photos within Trainerize, referring new clients, and tracking all of their daily food intake in MyFitnessPal (which I can see in my Trainerize account). I send out a weekly leaderboard to keep the challenge exciting, and this helps keep my clients motivated.

You can create your rewards and referral credits on a scale that is realistic to your programs and programs costs. Just be sure to make the rewards sufficient enough to make people actually want to participate and help you build your business.
