However, despite TikTok’s popularity, many brands have yet to jump on the trend ( likely because TikTok can be a little overwhelming and intimidating). So, to help you jump the hurdle, we’re breaking down all the steps you need to set up your very first TikTok account.

Create a TikTok account

The first step, albeit easy, is to set up your TikTok account. You can do this by following these 6 simple steps:

  • Download the TikTok app and choose how to sign in
  • Enter your birthday
  • Choose a username
  • Upload a profile photo
  • Create a bio
  • Add your name

It’s very straightforward and the app walks you through every step and prompts you for information when needed. Your account will be ready to use in a matter of minutes!

How to make a TikTok video

After you’ve set up your account, the next step is to make your first video. Making a TikTok video is a lot like doing it on any other social platform. And, much like Instagram, you can record your video ahead of time or create it right in the app.

If you choose to make your first video in the app, it’s very simple and intuitive. When you’re in your account, tap the + sign at the bottom of your screen or press create video on your profile page and start recording.

If you choose to record your video ahead of time, simply record it on your phone and then upload it to your TikTok account.

One thing to keep in mind that your video is for your business. So, you’ll want to take the time to set up your space with proper lighting and good angles, declutter your background, and then you’re ready to go.

Editing your TikTok video

TikTok has a lot of editing features which you’ll want to take advantage of and familiarize yourself with, especially if you are filming it directly in the app. However, most will also work if you record ahead of time too. Here are some of our favorite features:

Timer: TikTok allows for 3 or 10-second videos. With this feature, you can set your timer ahead of recording to stay on track.

Adjust speed: Using this feature, you to change the speed of your video, which will enable you to match your video to the music you choose etc. There are options for the following speeds: .3x, .5x, 1x, 2x, or 3x.

Adjust clips: The adjusting clips feature allows you to trim your videos. It’s a nice way to cut down your video or cut out unwanted facial expressions. We highly recommend using it.

Filter: Who doesn’t love a good filter? And TikTok has many to choose from. They even have a filter called enhance that automatically applies a filter to your face while filming.

These are just some of the great editing capabilities within your TikTok app, and we highly encourage you to play around with them all!

Adding effects to your TikTok Video

Much like Instagram, there are a lot of effects to choose from to make your first video exactly what you envision it to be. Here are some of the best ones:

Add sound: Once your video is recorded, you can browse TikTok’s extensive library of music to add music or sound effects to your video.

Add stickers and text: Like Instagram, there is an option to add text to your video, and there are a ton of fun stickers to choose from.

Captions: One of the cool things about TikTok is that it will automatically add captions for you. But don’t be afraid to play around or adjust them to suit your needs.

Voice Effects: This feature lets you use effects to change how your video audio sounds!

Voiceover: You can use voiceover to quickly record a voiceover to go with your video clips.

Enhance: You can apply an enhancement filter to your video easily

Noise Reducer: We love noise reducer because it allows you to edit or reduce the background noise in your video.

Finally, TikTok has a lot of unique tools that you can play around with. There’s the option to add hashtags and tag other users. And they also have something called Allow Duet and Allow Stitch.

Allow Duet lets other users split screen a TikTok using your video. In comparison, Allow Stitch allows other users to edit your video’s clips and add them to their own. These are great features to use to increase engagement and encourage others to repurpose your content.

Once you’ve edited and enhanced your video with effects and filters, it’s time to press post, and you’re ready to go!!

How to make a TikTok with multiple videos

One of the cool things about TikTok is that you have the option to post a combination of multiple videos and photos at once.

Simply hit upload and select videos and photos from your camera roll (the app allows you to select up to 35, which is pretty awesome).

Next, you can press adjust and select different clips and effects. TikTok will even give you suggestions for how to get started.

Finally, If your videos have a lot of background noise, you can always click the noise reducer to help lower that. Or use any of the effects or editing tools mentioned before.

Programs like later or Hootsuite can help you stay organized and ahead of your posts. Whatever scheduling tool you choose to use, you’ll find  most are pretty intuitive and ask you to:

-connect your TikTok account to your scheduling program
